Deca Durabolin is a form of nandrolone decanoate designed especially for adjuvant therapy in the treatment of certain blood disorders. Nandrolone the pharmacologically active substance of the preparation, is chemically related to the male hormone. An anabolic steroid that is sometimes used as an adjunct in the treatment of aplastic anaemias (types of anaemia resulting from a failure of the bone marrow to produce blood cells).
Known sensitivity to nandrolone or anabolic steroids: prostate or breast cancer in males, benign prostatic hypertrophy, breast cancer (females), pituitary insufficiency, MI (contraindicated because of effects on cholesterol), nephrosis, liver disease, hypercalcemia, pregnancy, lactation.
In children, anabolic steroid treatment may accelerate bone maturation without producing compensatory gain in linear growth. This adverse effect may result in compromised adult stature. The younger the child the greater the risk of compromising final mature height. The effect on bone maturation should be monitored by assessing bone age of the wrist and hand every six months.
Hypercalcemia may develop both spontaneously and as a result of androgen therapy in women with disseminated breast carcinoma. If it develops while on this agent, the drug should be discontinued. Caution is required in administering these agents to patients with cardiac, renal or hepatic disease. Cholestatic jaundice is associated with therapeutic use of anabolic and androgenic steroids. Edema may occur occasionally with or without congestive heart failure.
Deca Durabolin contraindications:
Hepatic impairment, prostate cancer or breast cancer in men, history of throembolism and pregnancy. Administration of nandrolone for increasing children?s height is not recommended because, due to the primary convocation of epiphysis caused, the final height may remain the same or even decrease. Administration of nandrolone as a tonic medicine or for increasing body weight is rejected. The use of nandrolone from athletes is forbidden due to serious adverse effects.
Deca Durabolin special cautions for use:
- In renal and cardiac impairment, hypertension, epilepsy or migraine (or in patients with history of these diseases) because nandrolone and anabolic steroids in general can cause retention of water and sodium.
- In diabetes mellitus or latent diabetes, because nandrolone and anabolic steroids in general are possible to reduce the need for insulin or other antidiabetic medicines.
- In breast cancer in women and bone metastasis, since anabolic steroids may cause hypercalcemia and hypercalcuria.
- Administration of the drug in infants is forbidden. Also it should not be administrated during the first two years of life, because it contains benzyl alcohol as preservative.
