What is Diovan?

Diovan is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.

Diovan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or heart failure. It is also used to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack.

Diovan may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Use an effective form of birth control. Stop using Diovan and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Diovan passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to valsartan.
