Infliximab - Remicade is approved for use alone or combined with methotrexate for treating moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. Infliximab is used for reducing the signs and symptoms of inflammation in moderate to severe Crohn's disease and Crohn's disease in which there are fistulas (passageways created when the inflammation penetrates beyond the wall of the intestine). It also is approved for the treatment of active psoriatic arthritis.
Psoriatic Arthritis, Plaque Psoriasis, and Ulcerative Colitis
The recommended dose for these conditions in adults is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two Remicade doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, the medication should be given every eight weeks.
Ankylosing Spondylitis
The recommended dosage of Remicade for ankylosing spondylitis is 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, Remicade should be given every six weeks.
Crohn's Disease
For adults and children with Crohn's disease, the recommended dose is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, the doses should be given every eight weeks. If Remicade seems to lose its effectiveness in adults who have initially responded well to the drug, the dosage can be increased up to 10 mg per kg (about 4.5 mg per pound) every eight weeks. However, the maximum dose of Remicade for people with moderate to severe heart failure (for any use) is 5 mg per kg (2.3 mg per pound) per dose.
