Thyroid T-3/T-4 suppression therapy dose administration

Many people have a thyroid gland that cannot make enough thyroid hormone for the body’s needs. This is called Hypothyroidism and may be caused by a non-functioning thyroid gland (for example Hashimoto’s disease),by destruction of thyroid gland by surgery or radiation treatment or by a non-functioning pituitary gland. Hypothyroidism,is the most common reason for needing thyroid hormone replacement.

Thyroid suppression therapy dose administration:

Administration of thyroid hormone in doses higher than those produced physiologically by the gland results in suppression of the production of endogenous hormone. This is the basis for the thyroid suppression test and is used as an aid in the diagnosis of patients with signs of mild hyperthyroidism in whom base line laboratory tests appear normal, or to demonstrate thyroid gland autonomy in patients with Grave's ophthalmopathy.

The dosage of thyroid hormones is determined by the indication and must in every case be individualized according to patient response and laboratory findings. It is best to take your dose on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before a meal.
